About

“I am interested in the talk, the word, the expression, and the emotion from which they originate. Putting an inner feeling into words requires listening to ourselves more deeply. We make a connection with the main one; we decipher the unique code in the sequence of our emotions. We look inside, we may stay silent for a long time, then we say it, we talk about it again and again. Just like shouting our anger, smiling our joy, the word is thrown out of our body verbally. If the sound that comes out of my mouth can get my feelings out, it defines me.”

Ayşe Tülay deals with the (un)spoken, the (un)heard, the sequential arrangement of letters and words, the spaces in between and, the (un)intelligible. She indicates permeability and complex interrelations matching the letters and words with forms and images.  The rectangle, which is frequently used in her works, is a metaphor for the place as an architectural space, the body as an entity, and the letters that represent the sound. Rectangles have meaning with their emptiness, fullness, presence, and absence. She resizes the phenomenon in her works by placing them on more than one axes.  Her works oscillate between her privacy and social life.
